The Chinese Community Association of Tasmania Inc (CCAT) is a non-political and non-profit organisation which was founded in 1969 by Chinese expatriates from all walks of life, varying from Market Gardeners to Professional people then residing in Tasmania.
The first Cluhouse, located at 120 Albert Road Moonah, was purchased and extended with donations from the founding members including:
Charles PK Chung (First President), Gordon Henry (Vice President), TB Chen (Secretary), GT Henry (Treasurer), Katie Young, Sim Chung, Chew Wa Chan, YH Quon, Laurance TK Wong, Gladys Chung Gon, Bernard Lee, Joe Chung Gon, Irvin Fong, YM Yan, Ivy Chung, ER Dixon and VL Taylor.
Our current Clubhouse in North Hobart was built in 1991, from funds generated from the sale of the Albert Road property and further donations by CCAT members as well as through fund raising activities.
Since its inception in 1969, the CCAT has been well served by many Committee Members who have been freely giving their time, talents and hard work to achieve the following aims and objectives as defined in the Constitution:
(a) To further the general welfare of members
(b) To provide facilities for cultural, social and sports functions and to promote the study and appreciation of the Chinese language and culture for members
(c) To provide hospitality and assistance to ethnic Chinese migrants and students from Overseas
(d) To promote friendship and co-operation between members and members of other communities in Australia.
